Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is essential for those who want to live a higher quality life.

Even though, there is still no universally accepted definition of the word “wellness”, the World Health Organization’s definition of “health” seems to be the best, internationally recognized description that captures the broad meanings of wellness.

This definition – adopted by the WHO in 1948 – was significant in the fact that it went beyond just the physical state of freedom from disease and emphasized a positive state of being that includes mental and social dimensions.

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” ~Preamble to the Constitution of the WHO.

Among the largely agreed on characteristics of the concept:

  • Wellness is holistic.
  • Wellness is a self-responsibility.
  • Wellness is multi-dimensional.

We would like to focus on this last very important characteristic as what we are offering is services, methods and technologies, which want to cover all the dimensions of health.

  1. Emotional Wellness

Emotional wellness is based on self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner strength. It is crucial to pay attention to both positive and negative feelings and to accept them in order to understand and handle all emotions. This also brings out the ability to learn and grow from what we experience. Probably the most important results are, proper decision making and the creation of supportive relationships.

  1. Environmental Wellness

Environmental wellness is based on respecting nature and all its creatures. Its higher purpose is living in harmony with all our surroundings. Everyone can have and should have strong environmental awareness.

  1. Financial Wellness

The introduction of this new dimension is rather new and not all sources consider it an independent dimension. Financial Wellness is about how to successfully managing financial expenses and financial stress so that it brings us less impact on our health and maximum results in our activities. Keeping up with financial responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming, but ignoring them will only increase feelings of stress, anxiety, and fear. All the other dimensions of wellness are in way connected to financial wellness.

  1. Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual wellness is about learning, engaging mentally-stimulating activities and I dare say about wisdom.   other dimensions, at some level this particular one gets inside the fabric of all the others. It leads to expanded knowledge and skills and the possibility of sharing.  Having an optimal level of intellectual wellness inspires curiosity and exploration which turns into development.

  1. Occupational wellness.

This is one of the dimensions which is also rather new and it is not found in all wellness dimensions classifications but we believe it is important as work is an important part of our lives. Occupational wellness recognizes the importance of satisfaction, enrichment and meaning through work. It is very important to be involved in activities that are gratifying for you and also to identify workplace stress in order to practice conflict management. Conflict management is key to achieving an optimal level of occupational wellness.

  1. Physical wellness

This particular dimension is so well-known that it is impossible to write anything new about it. It is by mistake, considered the entire wellness concept. Physical wellness is about taking care of our bodies for optimal health and functioning. Over all physical wellness encourages the balance of physical activity, nutrition and mental well-being to keep the body in a top condition. Obtaining an optimal level of physical wellness allows individuals to be empowered, and feel the responsibility of obtaining health.

  1. Social wellness

Social wellness is about how we interact with others. Our relationships bring us joy and also support during difficult times. Social wellness involves building healthy and supportive relationships as well as a true connection with those around you. Social wellness encourages communication, trust and conflict management. This particular dimension is strongly related to the emotional one.

  1. Spiritual wellness

Spiritual wellness is about our connection with our spiritual selves. It can be defined through various factors including religious faith, values, ethics, morals etc. Spiritual wellness is not only about seeking meaning and purpose in human existence, but it is also about appreciating life experiences for what they are. This way we can develop harmony with the inner self and the outside world. In simpler terms, spiritual wellness grants balance.
